Death Chess - 5e One-Shot

For our third One Door Dungeon, we bring you the Death Chess. This is our first trap-centric room that gives the players the chance to flex their big brains and utilize aspects of their characters that they might not normally get to engage. From spike traps to animated suits of armor, this map is sure to be a challenge — we know, we playtested it and it almost TPK’d on the first iteration. But don’t worry, we have included a lot of options for scaling and flexibility.

We have a guide for the One Door setting over at Tavern of the One Door and you can play in an entire setting where every so often a new door pops up and the party can dive in. That way you save on the prep time and have everything you need to just hop right in. Other than the players of course.

Be sure to download the session guide above and the map here and if you need characters to dive into the dungeon we suggest heading on over to www.dndbeyond.com to build some in minutes.

Now taking the podium, One Door Dungoeons, Death Chess.

(Checkmate.)

SETTING NOTES
A life-sized chessboard lays before the party as a half dozen suits of armor listlessly stare back. A small podium on the other side of the room glints in the soft torch light. Is it treasure or a trap?

Death Chess is an original idea by Hunter Steffens, PapaPuffins on Twitter, be sure to drop him a follow.
